YORK

York, a 6,800 SF coffee, wine, and cheese shop in Ann Arbor, expressed needs for dining, retail, mail-order retail, and full bar service. In addition, a food truck previously in the exterior courtyard was expanding into York and required additional food counters and kitchen space.

By maintaining the existing food counter, the design’s focus on economic space-planning achieves a new, yet recognizable, neighborhood market complex within York.

The café seamlessly transitions to the new restaurant within York. Previously functioning outdoor in the adjacent plaza, the new Ricewood BBQ service window and counter within York references the food truck experience.

The York renovation and outdoor plaza transforms the property into a vibrant town landmark offering artisan food, showcasing local musical talent, and providing a community gathering space.

Leveling out the ground, the exterior courtyard is activated with a hip arrangement of furniture, lighting, and shading. A Synecdoche collaboration with local artists paints the walls with murals to frame the courtyard.
